Marie Theresa Long (Schafer) died Sunday, October 8, at her daughter's home in Lewis Center, Ohio, surrounded by family.
She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, on May 17, 1925, to David Schafer and Agnes Burke Schafer.
She attended Mount de Chantal Academy and received a B.A. from Wheeling College. She worked for many years at Wheeling College as a secretary and in Public Relations.
Marie (Trish) was an avid reader of history and particularly enjoyed learning about the Civil War and World War II. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland, Italy, and Greece.
She loved folk dancing, square dancing, singing, and attending stage plays and musicals with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents David Schafer and Agnes Burke Schafer as well as her infant sister Sarah and husband James Long who passed away in 1997.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Long-Heslop (Richard) as well as her three granddaughters whom she adored: Jennifer Ho (Justin), Aimee Walsh (Rob), and Emily Heslop (Josh). She is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Marceline Ho and Matilda Ho.
As per her wishes, Trish will be cremated and buried alongside her husband Jim.
There will be a commemorative Mass on November 4 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Mary and Joseph on the campus of Wheeling University in Wheeling, West Virginia.
