I'm sorry to share that on Sept 26, 2023, just after having celebrated my 73rd birthday on Sept. 3, I lost my long battle with Multiple System Atrophy. My daughter Courtney was with me, holding my hand and playing our song: My Girl, by the Temptations.
I am sad to leave behind my brothers, Fred, Bob, Franz, and Charlie Thoman, my sister Ceil Bremer, and all of my nieces and nephews. The hardest goodbye of all was to my daughter Courtney, her husband Geoffrey, and my grandkids Samantha and Henry Brock.
While I hate to leave the ones I love most behind, I am so happy to see family and friends that I haven't seen in a long time. The first thing I'm going to do is have a tea party with my granddaughter Izzy and "eat'em piggies." Next I'm going to hug my mom and dad, Rose and Oscar Thoman then laugh with my friends about all the adventures we've had since seeing one another.
I was born and raised in Wheeling, West Virginia up on Cherry Hill. I have so many fond memories of playing in "the hole," racing bikes down Betty Zane, and creating a "theater" in our backyard. When I moved to Washington DC little did I know that I would make lifelong friends. I retired to Williamsburg, Virginia where I enjoyed the theater, the gardens at Colonial Williamsburg, and collecting iCarts. Because I couldn't sit still for long I started to make custom santas for family and friends as well as custom painted furniture that I sold in local galleries. This past year I've been in Raleigh to be closer to Courtney and her family.
It's been a wonderful life filled with so many adventures with family and friends who became family. I can't thank you all enough for all the love and support you've given me over the years. It's truly been an honor.
You all know me well enough to know I have never wanted the traditional funeral so Courtney will be planning a party in the coming months where we can all be together. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Izzy's Playground Endowment at Ravenscroft School. Ravenscroft School, 7409 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh NC 27615. 919-847- 0900
To Life! Cheers!
