CATHERINE “ROSE” LEWANDOWSKI

Catherine (Rose) Lewandowski, lovingly known as Rose, Rose Ann, Aunt Rose and Sashi to family and friends, passed away at the Home of the Good Shepherd on November 12, 2023, at the age of 89. She was born January 3, 1934, in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Rose was the daughter of Joseph (Joe) and Tekla (Tillie) Lewandowski. Her siblings included Joseph Lewandowski, Marcella LaRue, Dolores Trabert, Carl Lewandowski (all deceased), Angela Howell and Leah Reinhardt. She never married and lived with her parents until they died. Although Rose never had children of her own, she was surrounded by her nephews Steve, Clarence (Dusty) and Joe Howell as well as her niece, Cindy (Reinhardt) Woody daily. She was also very close to Cheryl (Woody) Morris, who named her Sashi and Richard Woody. Her other nieces and nephews include Michael Trabert, Bobbie Jo (LaRue) Hoffer (deceased), Bill LaRue, Michael Lewandowski of Columbus and Lisa Lewandowski of Siesta Key and many great great nieces and nephews. We will all miss Rose but take solace knowing she is with our Lord in a place where pain and sorrow do not exist.

Rose was a member of St Alphonsus parish where as a member of the Christian Mothers. She was very active in the church and volunteered many hours of service to the church working at street fairs, funeral dinners, fish frys, and cleaning the church. She always answered the call to assist and volunteer. She worked all her adult life and retired from the dietary department of OVMC. Rose will be remembered as a kind, compassionate woman of devout faith who touched the lives around her. She will be remembered for her warm smile and selflessness who always helped those in need.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, November 16, 2023 morning 10:30am until 12:30pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home at 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Wheeling, WV on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 1:00pm with Father Jeeson Stephan as Celebrant. Interment at Mt. Calvary, Wheeling, WV will immediately follow the Mass.
