DAWN VANNEST

Dawn Lynn Vannest, age 64, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023.

Dawn was born on January 9, 1959 in Wheeling, WV and was a lifelong resident of the Ohio Valley.

Dawn loved deeply and cared immensely for her husband of 42 years, Brad "Buck" Vannest and her sons Brady Vannest, Sean (Kayla) Vannest, and Alex (Allie) Vannest. Her family was her joy and her five grandchildren, Leighton, Maverick, Preston, Adalynn and Audra were the light of her life.

Dawn is also survived by her sisters, Jean McKenzie, Travelers Rest SC, Cathy (Mel) Sword, Bruceton Mills, WV, Susan (Jerry) Coffey, Hendersonville, TN, and her brothers, Joe (Becky) Shutler, Snoqualmie, WA, Tim (Lisa) Shutler, Mooresville, NC, and Eugene (Carolin) Shutler, Buckhannon, WV. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who she loved as her own children and a circle of friends that were like family.

Dawn is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Vivian Shutler, her sister, Julie Shutler, her Father-in-Law Sam Vannest and her Sister-in-Law Robin Walters.

Dawn began working in the Lab at Wheeling Hospital in May of 1981 after graduating from Wheeling Jesuit College. Dawn retired from Wheeling hospital in October 2021 after 40 years of dedicated service.

Dawn's smile and laughter were radiant, her love genuine and her heart full of kindness. She sowed seeds of happiness wherever she went. She was always first to lend a hand, cook a meal or send a card. Dawn lived fully and vibrantly and loved boating, camping (especially at Summersville Lake), sitting around the campfire with family and friends and the beach where she spent many hours at the water's edge with her toes in the water. Dawn will be missed by many but her spirit will live on and the gifts she leaves us -- kindness, caring and love -- will sustain us through this most difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, pay it forward and do a good deed or random act of kindness in Dawn's memory.

Visitation for Dawn will be at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm.
