Dr. Glenn Frederick Elliott Sr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Liza's Place on November 4, 2023 at the age of 79.
He was born on May 24, 1944, the son of the late Russell Reed Elliott and Mildred Carrie Frame.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Vivian, of 14 years; two sons, Glenn F. (Cassandra) Elliott, Jr. of Wheeling, Mark D. Elliott of Valley Grove, WV; one daughter, Tracy Lee Naples, of Wheeling; one grandson, Harrison Reed Elliott, and one granddaughter, Heather Lee O'Keefe; one brother, William Allen Elliott (Ladeane), of San Francisco, CA, and several nieces and nephews.
Dr. Elliott was a 1962 graduate of Triadelphia High School. The first in his family to attend college, he graduated West Liberty State College in 1972, followed by certification as a respiratory therapist at the University of Chicago. He worked in that capacity at OVMC for 16 years, ultimately serving as Director of Respiratory Therapy. In 1989, at the age of 45, he pursued a lifelong dream and entered the WV School of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1993 with D.O. degree. Following a psychiatry residency, he entered private practice in 1999 and later transferred to an in-house position at the Noble Correctional Institution until his retirement in 2017.
Despite his declining mobility over the past decade, Dr. Elliott and his wife Vivian remained fixtures on the Wheeling social scene until very recently. He had a lifelong passion for his hometown of Wheeling that was only amplified by his son Glenn's election as mayor in 2016. He loved all animals -- particularly the many dogs he had throughout his life. He was a master storyteller who loved to teach and was looking forward to sharing his wisdom with his new grandson Harrison. He will be dearly missed by many.
Family and Friends will be received at Kepner Funeral Home -- Elm Grove, 166 Kruger St., on Friday, Nov. 10th from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, Nov 11th from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m with Reverend Margie Carr officiating.
