Eleanor Marie Wallizer Baranski, 97, died on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was born on September 19, 1926, on a farm in Flintstone, MD, to parents Wade Wiley and Bessie Lee Alt Wallizer. She graduated from Flintstone High School. She moved to Wheeling, WV, in 1946, with her new husband, Walter, following his naval service, and she spent her adult life in Wheeling until early 2021 when, in declining health, she moved to Myrtle Beach in the comforting care of her daughters, Barbara and Therese.
Eleanor was a homemaker and the busy loving mother of eleven children. In later years, she enjoyed walking, reading, gardening, the companionship of her dogs and watching children play on Pulaski Field in South Wheeling. She was a member of St. Ladislaus Church and remained there until that parish was merged into St. Alphonsus Parish; in her later years she sang in the choir at St. Alphonsus.
Eleanor was a devout Catholic and active in Pro Life activities, participating in marches in DC and meeting with doctors to solicit free services for women. For several years she operated a center in her home where she collected donations for babies and mothers and provided counseling and support for women. She was proud to know that she had personally been involved in saving many babies' lives.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Peter Baranski in 1982; three children, Stanley Christopher, Francis John, and Walter Thomas; and three siblings, Evelyn Grace Wallizer Hartley, Robert Lewis Wallizer, and Betty Jane Wallizer.
She is survived by eight children: Michael Joseph (Julia) Baranski of Woodleaf, NC; Phillip Wade Baranski of Wheeling; Stephen Albert (Lexie) Baranski of Wheeling; Therese Marie Baranski Shiflett of Jacksonville, FL; Gregory Paul Baranski of Wheeling; Barbara Ann Baranski (Jonathan) Boole of Myrtle Beach; James Andrew Baranski of Wheeling; and Anita Lee Baranski VanDyne of Wheeling. She has 30 grandchildren and step-grand- children, many great grandchildren, as well as great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 2-4 & 6-9 pm and Friday, December 1 from 10-11:30 am, at CARE Funeral and Cremation Services, 3828 Jacob St. Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, December 1, at 12:00 pm at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2111 Market St. Interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
