"Betty" was born on August 17, 1923, to Robert W. and Ethel Yates Miller in Wheeling, WV, where she lived most of her life.

She was a vibrant and spontaneous spirit whose qualities of care and love extended to all who came within her reach. She was deeply devoted to "Pop," her husband of 53 years, and her children and their families.

She took the entrance exams to qualify for practical nursing school, and again passed them, rating among the national highest averages. She graduated from Spurr School of Practical Nursing, Glen Dale WV, in the top of her class. She continued her education while working as a Nurse at Ohio Valley Medical Center, earning credentials in pharmacology and alternative healing modalities. As a nurse, she gained a reputation of being patients' advocates, doing what was best for them and being sure they understood their situation. Her love and laughter radiated in her work.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred "Pop" Lewis, Sr.; three infant sisters, and her brother, Robert W. Miller, Jr.

She is survived by one son, Alfred "Fred" Lewis, Jr., and his wife, Susan J., of St. Clairsville, OH; one daughter, Martha L.
