James Harbison Downs, age 85, of Benwood, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 9, 2023 surrounded by his family.
He was born February 4, 1938; son of the late Earl and Rachel Harbison Downs.
He was a former production worker at Bayer Chemical Plant with twenty-eight years of service; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all sports, especially basketball; he was a former basketball player at Moundsville High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Downs.
Survivors include two sons: James (Theresa) Downs of Mozart and Eric Downs of Benwood; one daughter: Dana (Al) Shrontz of Lansing, OH; six grandchildren: Kial Downs, Nichole (Scott) Surface, Cameron (Andrew) Brown, Courtney Downs, Brianna Downs, and Alysa (Chris) Lake; four great-grandchildren: S.J. & Luke Surface and Paxton & Miles Brown; one sister: Sally Fronaphel of New Jersey; two nephews: Matthew (Juli) Coe and Christian Coe.
At the family's request, a private graveside service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family, at Halcyon Hills Memorial Park, Sherrard, WV.
