James "Jim" D. Burns, age 92, of Bethlehem, passed away Friday, November 17, 2023 at Liza's Place.
He was born May 3, 1931 in Wheeling, WV son of the late Grover and Lena Staib Burns.
Jim was the former owner/operator of Schenerlein & Sligar Sheet Metal Co., Steubenville, OH and Schenerlein Sheet Metal Co., Wheeling. He was a US Army Korean Conflict veteran, attended the East Richland Evangelical Friends Church, St. Clairsville, OH, enjoyed ballroom dancing and was a member of the Elm Grove Eagles.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers: William, Robert and Jerry Burns and one sister: Marjorie Caruth.
Survivors include his wife, of 18 years, Donna Goormastic Kocher-Burns; three children: Cindy (Jeff) Siegwart of Wheeling, Jamie Burns of Wellsburg, Bill (Jennifer) Burns of Toronto, OH and their mom: Dorothy "Pud" Bruhn (Bruce) Heil of Wheeling; three step- children: Dr. Brian (Anne) Kocher of N. Canton, OH, Kristine (Marc) Nolen of Dover, OH and Rob Weide of Wheeling; 11 grand children: Erica Gump, Angie Smith, James Derr, Hayley Johnson, Sydni Skender, Drue (Harley) Nolen, Kyle Nolen, Sarah Kocher, Grace Nolen, Samantha Kocher and Nathan Nolen; 8 great grand children and a great great granddaughter.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 24, 2023 from 10:00am until time of memorial service at 12 noon at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 1 Ridgecrest Road, Bethlehem/Wheeling, with Pastor Dr. Jerry Wenger officiating.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Valley Hospice, Liza's Place for the loving and devoted care they gave to Jim.
He was kind and generous and never knew a stranger. We all love you and you will be deeply missed.
