MARTHA STARKEY

Martha Skvarka Starkey of Benwood, WV, went to be with the Lord at Cameron Nursing Healthcare Center on November 3, 2023.

She was born in Blaine, OH, on January 13, 1936, daughter of the late Paul and Anna Skvarka.

Martha graduated from Union High School and raised five children with her late husband Glen Starkey. Martha had a great love for Jesus and the Blessed Mother and was a devoted member of St. John's Catholic Parish in Benwood, WV. She had a love of gardening, cooking, birds, walking, and saying her rosary.

Martha was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank, Paul and Albert Skvarka; sisters, Josephine Skvarka, Margaret Kolar and Theresa Jafrate; grandson, Robert Clayton; and great-grandson, Griffin Brady.

She is survived by her brothers, Robert Skvarka and Henry (Mardena) Skvarka; sister-in-law, Jeannie Skvarka; children, Alan (Lori) Starkey, Russell Starkey, Kimberly Pelley, Jerome (Lisa) Starkey, and Renee Clayton; as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 3 p.m. until time of vigil service at 7 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2023, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at St. John's Catholic Church, Benwood, with Rev. Doney Chacko as celebrant. Interment will follow in Parkview Memorial Gardens, Wheeling, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Martha's name to Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center Soup Kitchen of Greater Wheeling. Contributions can be made online at www.tmcfunding.com.
