Richard Bates King, known best as Rich, passed away on November 3, 2023, at WVU Medicine, Wheeling Hospital, after a long illness. He was born on October 29, 1945, in Martins Ferry, OH.
Rich, at the age of 78, leaves behind a legacy of dedication, faith and hard work. He was an Operations Manager for Allegheny Energy and former co-owner of Uniquely Yours Gift Shop. Rich was a Catholic by Faith and was grateful for the visits he had with Father Cyprian.
Devoted to his community, Rich was an active member of several organizations. He attended and participated in Knights of Columbus Father Flanigan Council, 1907, UMAC-Uptown Moundsville Activities Committee, VFW Post 437, American Legion Post 3, and Eagles Aerie 499, Moundsville.
Rich proudly served his country as a Vietnam War Veteran in the United States Air Force. His bravery and sacrifice during his military service will always be remembered and honored.
Preceding Rich in death were his parents, Web and Blanche (Wheatley) King. He is survived by his loving wife, Terri (Kestner) King, son Kevin (Deanthus) King, daughter Teann (Dan Smith) King, and his stepdaughter Ashley (Chris) Bowie. Rich also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Gabriel Boggs, Rowan King, Declan King, Zoe King, Brynn Bowie, and Brady Bowie.
A memorial service with full Veteran Honors will be held at a later date to honor and celebrate Rich's life. It is a testament to his character and the impact he had on others that his memory will be commemorated in such a special way.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Squad for their unwavering support and assistance throughout Rich and Terri's journey the last few years. Their dedication and readiness to help were deeply appreciated during this difficult time.
