Sandra Sue McAfee, affectionately known as Sandy, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving children by her side on November 1, 2023. Born on March 28, 1951, in Glen Dale, Sandy lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a touch of sass. She was 72 years old at the time of her passing.
Sandy dedicated many years of her life to caring for others as a retired Certified Nursing Assistant in the OR at Wheeling Hospital. Her heart of gold shone through in every interaction, bringing comfort and solace to those in need. Whether it was holding a patient's hand or cracking a joke to lighten the mood, Sandy had a way of brightening up any room she entered.
When she wasn't busy caring for others, Sandy found joy in tending to her farm and taking care of her beloved chickens. Her farm was her sanctuary, a place where she could escape from the world and find peace.
Family meant everything to Sandy, and she cherished the time spent with her loved ones. She is survived by her daughter, Carrie (David) Shipman of Wheeling, WV, and her son, David Hanson of Wheeling, WV. Sandy also leaves behind her brother, Robert Gardner of Wheeling, WV, and her sister, Cassie Jo (Tom) Watson of Ripley, WV.
Her grandchildren, Dustin Hanson, Morgan McCort, Dulcie Hanson, Laura Shipman, Kason Hanson, and Kolby Hanson, brought immense joy to her life. Sandy was also blessed with a great-grandson, Caleb Morris, who held a special place in her heart. Let's not forget her fur-baby, Shammie, who provided endless companionship and unconditional love.
Sandy was known for her quick wit, her private nature, and her unwavering work ethic. She had a knack for always having the last word in any conversation, leaving those around her both amused and slightly exasperated. Her sense of humor was infectious, and she could make even the toughest situations seem a little less daunting.
Services for Sandy will be held at the convenience of the family, with CARE Funeral and Cremation Specialists in Moundsville, WV, providing their expertise and support during this difficult time.
Sandy Sue McAfee will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, resilience, and determination will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May she rest in peace, forever remembered for her wit, her hard work, and her ability to bring a smile to everyone's face.
