Delmer Keith Loew Sr., passed away December 15, 2023. He was born on October 21, 1940, the son of the late Elmer G. Loew and Frances Mae (Jones) Loew.
He married Virginia Gayle Smith Loew on June 12, 1962. Together they parented eight children, Virginia Loew-Shelhammer (widow of John Shelhammer), Beverly Loew (widow of Michael Baker), Delmer Keith Loew Jr., (Stephanie Loew), Carolyn Loew Kingsland (Craig Kingsland), Alyce Pagano (Chris Pagano), Evelyn Loew Minch (Gary Minch), Susan Stirewalt (James Stirewalt), Curtis Martin Loew.
After the older children married and moved away, Curtis remains by their side always caring for the animals that he loved. Mr. Loew was so proud of each of their children and the platforms they have to promote Christ.
Delmer was blessed by his 14 grandchildren and double blessed by his six great-grandchildren.
Delmer graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1958. He completed an education degree at West Liberty State College in 1962 with a minor in music, where he met the love of his life, Virginia. Together they had Oh-Dello Dairy Farm in Valley Grove, West Virginia which he and his family managed.
Mr. Loew was an elementary school teacher and head teacher at West Alexander Elementary School. Many accounts have been told of the gift of teaching he had. He was proud to be a teacher in West Alexander for over forty years until his retirement in 2000. He prided himself on teaching the basics and ensuring that every child had an opportunity to learn. He loved teaching in rhymes.
Delmer accepted Jesus as his Savior. He was a member of Valley Grove Assembly of God Church.
Delmer is preceded in death by his parents and his infant sister, Frances Jean Loew. Remaining is his beloved brother, James Loew (Helen Loew) of West Liberty, WV; and his precious niece and nephew, Rhonda Kimmins (Kevin Kimmins) and Wesley Loew.
One of his favorite sayings was "The Morning Cheer from Papa Dear" which was his own modified version of the "Paul Revere's Ride" poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. He loved burning coal in his coal stove and enjoyed sharing with anyone a good cup of hot coffee with a little fresh cream.
The family especially wants to thank Dr. James Comerci and Dr. Daniel Wilson for providing such compassionate medical care. And as well, the family wants to thank our angel, Kim Strong for the love and attention she gave to Delmer this past year. She was an exceptional cook and housekeeper. We also thank Markie Gandy, and great-neices, Kayla Hancher (Nick Hancher) and Savannah Kimmins (Zachary Kimmins), for their excellent caregiving and house-keeping.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling (304-242-2311) where services will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in West Alexander Cemetery.
