FRANCIS “LEINIE” LEINWEBER
								Francis E. “Leinie” Leinweber, a retired firefighter with the Wheeling Fire Department, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023, in Media, PA. He was born on October 23, 1931, in Wheeling, WV. Leinie was 92 years old at the time of his passing.
Leinie’s life was marked by service, dedication, and a strong sense of duty. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a recipient of several prestigious medals, including the Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the China Service Medal. His commitment to his country and his fellow servicemen was unwavering.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Francis continued to serve his community as a firefighter with the Wheeling Fire Department. His selflessness and bravery were evident through- out his career, as he fearlessly faced the dangers that came with the job to protect the lives and property of others.
Leinie also had a deep faith, and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member. He found strength and solace in his Catholic faith, and it was a guiding force through- out his life.
Leinie was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bernetta (Blatt) Leinweber, his first wife, Mary Eileen (Hughes) Leinweber, and his siblings, Edward, Walter, and Florence Leinweber. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Busack-Leinweber, and his children, Theresa (Vern) Leinweber of Los Angeles, CA; William “Bill” (Marcia) Leinweber of Springfield, PA; Patrick (Lisa) Leinweber of Mt. Morris, PA; David Leinweber of Pittsburgh, PA; and Kevin (Nicole) Leinweber of Worthington, OH. He is also survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews.
Leinie will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and his community. He was a proud graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School and carried the values instilled in him from his alma mater throughout his life.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 6, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, December 7, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bishop’s Chapel at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, WV, followed by Entombment at the Chapel Mausoleum.
Francis E. “Leinie” Leinweber’s life serves as an inspiration to all. His dedication, bravery, and kind heart have left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
