Herbert Charles Auten, 90, of Wheeling, WV, died Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Moundsville Healthcare.
He was born February 17, 1933, son of the late Herbert H. and Kathryn Bowers Auten.
Herbert was a Christian by faith, a U.S. Army Veteran and a longtime employee of Ohio County Schools.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Loretta Ullom Auten; infant son, Charles Auten; sister, Jackie Read; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, Ray Auten and Mike (Amy) Auten; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, James Auten; sisters, Kitty Stahl and Myrtle Barr; and several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and grandsons-in-law.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-242-2311), where services will be held Friday, December 22, 2023 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Mike Palmer officiating.
Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
