Phyllis M. Dye Slater, 95, of Wheeling, WV formerly of Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, in Wheeling Hospital.
She was born on August 12, 1928, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late Cecil R. and Virginia (Giffin) Dye.
She was a member of the Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, where she had served on the Board of Trustees and a Deacon; Wheeling Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution; Wheeling Area Genealogical Society; Wheeling Historical Society; Island Senior Citizens; and the Bridgeport Alumni Association. Phyllis was manager of Slater's Record Shoppe for more than twenty years and a volunteer at the Ohio County Library for more than 20 years. She was very interested in local history and genealogy.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Conaway; her second husband, John Slater; a son, James Conaway; an infant sister, Joann; and a half-brother, Cecil Dye Jr.
Surviving are two daughters, Phyllis (Gregory) Ritchie of VA and Virginia (Curtis) Harvey of TN; two half-sisters, Cecila, and Zaza of PA; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
In keeping with her wishes there will be no services. Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside, is entrusted with the arrangements.
