CLAUDIA SCHULTZ

Claudia Marie Winters Schultz, 77, of Sand Hill, WV, passed away on January 19, 2024, at Moundsville Healthcare Center (formerly Stonerise) after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Claudia was born on November 1, 1946, the daughter of the late Claude and Tacie Winters, formerly of Sand Hill in Wheeling, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings: Jackie (Winters) Kernan, James, Linda (Winters) Taylor, Louanna (Winters) Gray, Danny and Daryl.

A 1963 graduate of Sherrard High School, Claudia spent most of her career in commercial/contractor electrical sales at E.C. Supply, where she sold much of the wiring and electrical infrastructure to support the Oglebay Festival of Lights from its inception, along with many other projects around the valley. She later worked at Tri-State Supply before retiring in 2011.

On June 19, 1965, she married Charles E. Schultz (Chuck), and they moved to Bellevue, Nebraska and later to Bedford, England during his time in the U.S. Air Force. After returning to Wheeling, they built a home on the Schultz farm in Sand Hill.

Claudia was a member of the Sand Hill United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, served on the administrative council and as treasurer for many years. Many people will remember Claudia as the door greeter and hostess during dozens of church dinners, and her cherry cheesecake was a staple on the dessert table. She also organized the annual Winter's Family Reunion (now in its 99th year) for nearly 30 years, keeping this long-standing tradition alive for an entire generation.

Claudia will be remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness. She would often bring surprise milkshakes to those who were ill or shut in, or send a card full of lottery tickets to lift their spirits.

In addition to her husband, Chuck, she is survived by two children, Kara (John) Gray of Dallas, WV, and Vaughn (Irena) Schultz of Bridgeville, PA; three grandchildren, Ainsley and Sydney Gray and Miles Schultz; six siblings, Judy (Jim) Gray, David, Shelley (Nick) Klamut, Crystal (Bernie) Gaus, Melody and Cindy; sisters-in-law Diane Winters, Norma Toland, Virginia Schultz, and brother-in-law Russell Gray; and dozens of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-242-2311) on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Deb Dague officiating.

Interment will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Moundsville Healthcare Center and Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care and treating Claudia like she was a member of their own family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sand Hill United Methodist Church, 2781 Sand Hill Road, Wheeling, WV 26003 or the Dallas VFD, 7024 Dallas Pike Road, Dallas, WV 26036.
