ELIZABETH DIETRICH

Elizabeth "Betty" Peters Dietrich was born on December 10, 1923 to her loving parents George and Helen Peters. A devout Catholic, she was raised in Elm Grove, educated at St. Vincentde Paul School, and St. Joseph's Academy, class of 1942.

Graduating from Elliott's School of Business, she worked as a secretary until retiring at age of 75.

Betty was a skilled cake decorator and took pride in her beautiful special occasion cakes well into her 80s. She was fondly known to many as "The Cake Lady."

She was an active member of the Seven Dolores Alter Society, working and baking at their fish fry. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, genealogy, reading and crocheting, and she always had a jigsaw puzzle in the works.

Betty passed peacefully on Dec 31, just weeks following a family celebration of her 100th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; son Bob (Deter); son-in-law, Bob Knauss; brother, Albert (BJ) Peters; and sister, June (Paul) Gaughenbaugh.

She is survived by children, Tom (Judy) Dietrich, Barb Knauss, Patty (Greg) Gompers, Mary (Mark) Uraco, Bill (Cindy) Dietrich; grandchildren, Dawn (Rob) Mattingly, Allyson (Matt) Shively, Aimee (JW) Freeland, Bryan Knauss (Davina), Erin (Jason) Moore, Jim (Lori) Dietrich, Clayton (Molly) Dietrich, Shannon Gompers, Kevin (Stacey) Gompers, Adam Uraco, Devinh (Wes) Gibson, Andy (Bre) Dietrich, Morgan (Phil) Gable, Elizabeth Babka; 26 great- grandchildren; four great-great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family thanks the staff and caregivers at The Welty Home for the Aged, Good Shepherd Nursing Home and Valley Hospice for their sincere kindness, compassionate care and dedication to the well being of our loved one.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church, 2244 Marshall Ave., Wheeling, WV; or Valley Hospice, 988 Elm Terrace, Wheeling, WV.

Visitation Wednesday, January 3, 4-6:30 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home, 1 Ridgecrest Road, Wheeling. Rosary vigil to follow. Mass of Christian burial Thursday January 4, 11 a.m. St. Vincent dePaul Church, 2244 Marshall Ave., Wheeling.
