JOAN VALPUT

Joan M. Valput, beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and dedicated nurse, passed away peacefully at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling, WV on December 30, 2023, at the age of 93.

Born on July 2, 1930, in Bellaire, OH, Joan's journey in life was marked by compassion, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to caring for others. After graduating from the Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing, she embarked on a fulfilling career as a nurse in OB and Delivery, providing comfort and support to countless families in their most joyous and challenging moments. Joan's love for her profession was evident in the genuine care she showed to every patient.

Upon retiring, Joan continued to share her time and expertise at Wheeling Hospital, graciously volunteering for many years. Her selflessness and commitment to serving others were truly inspiring, leaving a lasting impact on the hospital community.

Joan was a devout member of St. Michael Catholic Church and actively participated in various organizations, including the Wheeling Hospital Nurses Alumnae, The Sisters of Saint Joseph Auxiliary, The Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Wheeling Hospital Auxiliary, Women's Club of Wheeling, and Christian Mothers. Her involvement in these groups was a testament to her deep-rooted faith and her desire to contribute positively to her community.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Katherine (O'Grady) Burkhart, her beloved husband of 64 years, William (Bill) Valput Sr., and her sisters, Greta Burkhart and Patricia Dodrill. She will be deeply missed by her children: Catherine (John) Lucius of Phoenix, AZ; William (Cheri) Valput Jr. of Wheeling, WV; and Patricia (George) Boury of Columbus, OH. Joan's legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Chandra (Eric) Verbic, Lindsey (Jon-Eric) Morales, Hayley (Cameron) Reagan, and Colin Boury. She was blessed to experience the joy of six great-grandchildren: Lincoln and Stella Verbic, Juliette and Lucy Morales, Sable and Holden Reagan. Her brother, Robert (Bunky) Burkhart of Neffs, OH, will forever cherish their shared memories.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held later in the year to honor Joan's remarkable life and the impact she had on those around her.
