Joseph Delano "Chinny" Chincheck, born on July 29, 1933, in Benwood, WV, transitioned from this world on January 25, 2024, at Reynolds Memorial Hospital. He lived a life filled with purpose, leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration for all who had the privilege of knowing him. Joseph was 90 years old at the time of his passing.
Throughout his life, Joseph pursued various professional endeavors, showcasing his dedication and skill in the field of machining. He proudly worked for Allied Chemical and Olin Chemical as a Machinist, while also imparting his expertise as the Machine Tool Technical Instructor at John Marshall High School and WV Northern Community College. Joseph later served as a Machinist Trainer at PPG/West Lake for 22 years, leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and students. Joseph was very proud of being a founding member of the Union High School Alumni committee.
In addition to his commendable professional achievements, Joseph found solace in giving back to his community. He volunteered his time and skills for CORE (Center for Organ Recovery and Education), the City of McMechen's Building Enforcement Agency, and the Zoning Board. Furthermore, his dedication extended to the construction and development of "Riverview Park" for the City of McMechen, where his efforts will continue to benefit residents for generations to come.
Joseph's love for his family was immeasurable. His devotion to his late wife, Patricia A. Chincheck, was unwavering, and their bond set an example of true love and loyalty. He leaves behind his daughters, Susan Paige Chincheck and Leslie Ann (Mark) Lynch, who will forever cherish the gift of his presence and the values he instilled in them.
Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia, parents Jacob and Katherine (Banasik) Chincheck, sisters Josephine Walters and Mary Kowalczyk, brothers Frank J. and Stanley J. Chincheck, sister-in-law Suzie Gallagher, and nephews Marty Walters and Stanley J. Chincheck Jr. He is survived by his sister-in-law Dolores Chincheck, brother-in-law Bill Gallagher, nieces Erin Bond, Julie Chincheck, and Mary Catherine Tandarich, as well as nephews, Jackson Bond, and Bill Gallagher Jr. Joseph also leaves behind numerous neighbors, work friends, and friends in general, and his special little friend Xavier Foster; all of whom will miss his warm presence and kind heart.
Joseph's strong faith was evident in his commitment to St. James Catholic Church in McMechen, WV, where he attended and found comfort in community gatherings.
Joseph Delano Chincheck will forever be remembered for his genuine kindness, unwavering dedication, and steadfast love for his family and community. His spirit will continue to inspire all those who strive to make a positive impact in the world. May he rest in eternal peace.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the visitation, which will be held on Tuesday, January 30 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Benwood/McMechen Altmeyer Funeral Homes. A short visitation will also take place on January 31 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a service conducted by Father Doney at the funeral home. Commemorating Joseph's life, we will then proceed to Mount Calvary Cemetery.
