Mary Carmina Oakland, known to her loved ones as Carmina, was born on August 21, 1930 in Glen Dale, WV to the proud parents Jose Antonia and Josephine (Ovies) Guardado. She peacefully passed away at home with her devoted family around her on January 26, 2024, at the age of 93, after living a full and beautiful life.
Carmina dedicated many years of her professional life as a secretary with the WV Department of Transportation. Her hard work and dedication were admired by her colleagues and she made lasting friendships along the way. As first-generation born in the United States, Carmina was very proud of her heritage that is rooted in Piedras Blankas, Spain. Carmina's love for real estate, shopping with her grandchildren, visiting the Tea Room, and spending time with her family brought her great joy.
Carmina had a strong faith and was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She found solace in praying the Rosary and would often say that she was "keeping the beads hot" for her beloved family. Her devotion to her faith was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Carmina's beautiful hair was one of her trademarks, as she would often be stopped by strangers commenting on her perfectly styled hair. She always carried herself with grace and elegance, leaving a lasting impression on those around her.
Carmina is preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur W. Oakland, Sr., her parents, Jose Antonio and Josephine Guardado, her brother, Joe F. Guardado, her daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Oakland, and her granddaughter, Maryann Oakland. Although we mourn her loss, we find comfort knowing that she has been reunited with her loved ones.
Carmina leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and cherished memories. She is survived by her children, Arthur Oakland, Jr., Joseph (Dana) Oakland, David (Michele) Oakland, and Karen (Mark) Baker. She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren: Megan Oakland, Karen Oakland, Nicholas Oakland, Chelsea Oakland, Alex Baker, Rebecca (Rick) Moses, Catherine (Steve) Folmar, and Donald Oakland, as well as her great-grandchildren: Emmi, Spencer, Kiersten, Kallie, AJ, and Ethan. They will dearly miss their sweet Mina "riding the herd" on her tribe.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, Lutes and Kirby-Vance Chapel, located at 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, WV. A Rosary and Vigil will take place at 7:30pm during the visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Moundsville, WV on Thursday at 11:00am, with Rev. Msgr. Samuel S. Sacus as Celebrant and interment will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery in Moundsville, WV.
Carmina's family would like to thank her devoted care companions and "Everybody Loves Raymond" watching amigas, Paige, Kim, Leticia and Barb as well as her long time friend, Geneva, for all of the love you gave Carmina.
