Virginia Mae Martin, beloved mother, Little Gram, Memall and Gamall, 96, from McMechen, passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 10th at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling, WV.
She was born in Bellton, WV on April 18, 1927, the daughter of the late Eathel and Burnzo Leichliter. She was also preceded in death by her two beloved sons, James D Martin and John E Martin II, and her great grandchildren Victoria McKenzie and Michael Martin.
Virginia was the matriarch of her family and dedicated her life to caring for her family and others. Her nurturing spirit and commitment to her family were unending. She loved leading people to Jesus. To know her was to love her!
She was a lifetime member of the First Church of God, McMechen, where she served in many leadership roles, including the Sunday school superintendent and Sunday School teacher for many years. She was employed at Reynolds Memorial Hospital for 39 years, as the housemother of the school of nursing, and various other departments. She was a past volunteer at RMH, a member of the NWTF, and a member of the Marshall County Republican Executive Committee where she received the Ronald Reagan Award in 2015.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sandy (Richard) Sperling of Glen Dale and Bonnie (Anthony) Cuchta of McMechen, her daughter in laws, Rebecca Martin of McMechen and Sandra Martin Adams of Michigan. Her twelve grandchildren, Cindy, Sheri, Rick, Scott, Stacey, Jay, Dawn, Terri, Tony, Carrie, John and Kevin. Also, several great grandchildren, as well as great great grandchildren.
Services to honor and celebrate Virginia's remarkable life will be held at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood- McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, WV. Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 14, from 12-6 pm and on Monday, January 15, from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am, officiated by Pastor Mitch Johnston. Following the service, Virginia will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, WV.
