BETTY MARIE PETRI

Betty Marie Petri, 97, joined her family in heaven on January 28, 2024, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

She was born in Wheeling, WV, on July 25, 1926, and led a life marked by love, strength and affection. She worked many jobs in her 97 years to support her family - from seamstress to her brother-in-law's carpet store -- with her last position as a file clerk in the office of her son-in-law, Dr. Richard F. Terry, before she retired.

Betty was eminently proud of her family and Italian heritage, often saying that being Italian was like being a member of the club everyone wanted to join. She was a devout member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and former member of the Elm Grove Women's Club, St. Vincent Christian Mothers and the Italian American Citizens Club of Wheeling.

She was a much beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and Aunt Betty to scores of family and friends, especially in Wheeling's Elm Grove neighborhood, where her door was open to all. Betty was proudest of her two daughters, Mary Jo and Benita.

She often told them they worked too hard, but they learned that lesson from their mother, who worked tirelessly for decades to care for her family.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary (Amato) Chiazza; her husband, Sylvester Petri; her eldest daughter, Mary Jo (Petri) Terry; her sister, Rose (Chiazza) Harris; and her brother, John Chiazza. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Benita Petri- Pickstone (Dr. Stephen Pickstone) of Colum- bus, Ohio; her son-in-law, Dr. Richard F. Terry, of Wheeling; her brother- in-law, James Harris (Ginger); her grand children, Juliet A. Terry of Charleston, WV; David Terry (Lindsay) of Prior Lake, MN; Brian Terry of Wheeling; John Pickstone of Huntington, WV; Michael Pickstone of Columbus, OH; great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian burial will held, Saturday, February 3, at 10 am with Fr. Jeeson officiating. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the Betty Petri Library at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 2244 Marshall Ave., Wheeling, WV, 26003 or in www.tmcfunding.com.
