JOSEPH DALLISON SR.

Together Again

Joseph R. Dallison Sr., 93, of Wheeling passed away on Wednesday February 7, 2024 in Wheeling Hospital. He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Wheeling.

He was born in Bridgeport, OH on September 12, 1930 son of the late William & Genevieve (Coyne) Dallison.

He attended Wheeling Central Catholic and Bellaire St. John's and the US Army Combat Construction Foreman School.

Joe retired from Wonder Bread where he worked for over 30 years. He was a member of the IAC Elm Grove, NRA, Elm Grove Eagles, Foresters of Bridgeport, Cave Club, Teamster Retirees, V.P Teamster Credit Union, Lewis Wetzel Rifle & Pistol Club and Life member of the Ohio County Wildlife League.

Joe & Babe loved traveling, especially their yearly fishing trips to Canada and also enjoyed hunting & fishing with grandson Joseph and cousin Chuck Shepherd for over 40 years. After Babe's passing Joe continued to enjoy fishing with his "fishing buddies". He enjoyed reading, woodworking, gardening and talking to and helping people. He was also an avid supporter of West Liberty sports.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Carmella Ann "Babe" (Panepinto) Dallison; son, Joseph R. Dallison, Jr.; twin brother, Jim and his wife Eleanor; brothers John and Arthur "Art" killed in Korea in 1952; brothers-in-law, Adolph "Tony" Panepinto, Dr. Joseph Panepinto, John Katona, Joe Walton; sisters- in-law, Josephine Walton, Frances Crouch and Ann Katona, Bebe Daniel Panepinto.

Joe was a US Army Veteran and served in Okinawa. He was in Korea at the start of the war in the 25th infantry Division of the 65th Combat Engineers Battalion. He served in 5 major engagements and received 5 combat bronze battle stars; 2 presidential unit citations from Korea, US and serving in Austria. He was a first Sergeant of the 70th Combat Construction Company. He received medals and ribbons from time and places served.

Surviving is his daughter Catherine (Joe) Rohrig, of Wheeling; daughter- in-law, Debbie Dallison; grandchildren, Suzanne (David) Gaiser, of Wheeling, Maria (Derrick) Vandyke of Bulger, PA, Joseph (Erika) Rohrig, of Wheeling, C.J. (Stanah) Dallison of Weirton, WV, Amy (Rob) Richard of Wheeling, Tom (Brittany) Kasunic of Wheeling; great grandchildren, Gwyneth, Adelynn, and Charlie Gaiser, Ben and Megan Vandyke, Roen and Emersyn Rohrig, Christopher, Landon and Charity Dallison, Destinee and Dominic Frye, Carter Richard, Kenzie and Thomas Kasunic; sisters-in- law, Dr. Ruth Panepinto and Carol Panepinto and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Sunday, February 11, 2024 from 1 – 5 pm at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling, (304-242-2311) where a vigil service will be held at 4:45 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday February 12, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Elm Grove with Msgr. George Coyne as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling with Military Honors by the Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard.
