JOSEPH JONES

Joseph William "Bill" Jones, 83, of Moundsville, WV, peacefully passed away after a hard-fought battle with Parkinson's Disease on Saturday, February 17, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

His earthly life began in Grafton, WV, where he was born the son of the late Joseph and Irene Mitchell Jones on December 26, 1940. He and his family left Grafton when he was eleven and moved to Newell, WV, where he went on to graduate from Wells High School in 1958.

Upon graduation, Bill joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Radarman onboard the USS Mills radar picket ship in the North Atlantic. He left the Navy in 1962 and began his college education at West Liberty State College, where he graduated in 1966 with a degree in Education, emphasis on Business and Social Studies. He would also graduate with a master's degree in education from West Virginia University.

Bill started his teaching career at Moundsville High School for two years, then was among those on staff when the newly built John Marshall High School opened in 1968. He retired from teaching in 2003, after 37 years of service to Marshall County Schools.

Upon retirement, Bill joined the Washington Lands Lions Club and served on their Sight Mobile, visiting various schools and venues throughout the Upper Ohio Valley and was an active member of Washington Lands United Methodist Church as long as his body would allow it.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 33 years, Susan Warren Jones; his children, Michael (Lori) Jones and Melissa (Wade) Stanfield, all of Moundsville; his sister, Donna (Neil) Gleberman, of Glen Allen, VA; three grandchildren, Jacob Jones, Jimmy Jackson, and Jasmine Jones.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to the workers at Amedysis Hospice - Tia, Lauren, Kathleen, Alex, Dani, Cheryl, Jenny, John, and Daniel. We couldn't have had a better team.
