Paul Eugene (Gene) Winters, 89, of Cameron/Moundsville, WV was placed into the loving arms of Jesus Christ in the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, February 26, 2024, with his beloved wife, Mary Jane, by his side. Gene was born on April 17, 1934, in Glen Dale, WV.
Gene lived a life filled with dedication and service. After graduating from Cameron High School in 1952, where he was a valued member of the Cameron Dragons football team, he bravely served in the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy. Gene's commitment extended into his professional life as well, serving as a Retired Maintenance Supervisor at Kamer- Mitchell Power Plant for over 34 years. Gene was a dedicated and loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns and WVU Mountaineers.
Gene's impact went beyond his work and military service. He was a devoted member of American Legion Post 3 Moundsville and Moundsville Moose Lodge, where he formed lasting friendships.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert T. & Thelma M. (Huff) Winters, and his brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Ronnie Winters.
Gene's family meant the world to him, and he is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 43 years, Mary Jane (Woodstuff) Winters; children Greg Winters and Lisa Winters of Naples, FL; step-children Jeffrey (Kathy) Gilkey of Follansbee, WV, Lori Spencer and her late husband, Mike of Wellsburg, WV, Lee Ann (John) Klovanish of Wellsburg, WV, and Eric Kendzerski of Morgantown, WV; as well as 8 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren.
A man of faith and generosity, Gene touched the lives of many and will always be remembered for his kindness and warmth. Services for Gene include visitation on Thursday, February 29, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, and a brief visitation on Friday, March 1 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Mark Harris of Washington Lands United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Moundsville.
The family expresses deep gratitude to the kindhearted staff at Amedisys Hospice, especially Gara, Cheryl, and Kathleen, and Dr. James Comerci for his years of dedicated care. Special thanks to their friend, Mila, who spent countless hours with Gene. In addition, he was blessed to have the most loving and caring neighbors, Roger & Connie Brown. The family is truly indebted for their unwavering support and love over the years. Gene's memory will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
