Robert "Bob" E. Gillespie, age 85, of Benwood, WV, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born October 9, 1938, in Moundsville, son of the late Raymond and Georgia Mercer Gillespie.
He was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Steubenville Plant; a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Benwood, Flood Wall Committee, Benwood/ McMechen Housing Authority, and Benwood Park Board; Benwood baseball/ softball coach for 40 years and Boy Scout Leader; he also enjoyed coaching & watching his children & grandchildren play sports.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son: Robert "Rob" Gillespie; one brother: Jerry Gillespie; and two sisters: Betty Kachalo & Mary Ann Dempsey.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Mary "Rosalie" Moczek Gillespie; one daughter: Renee (Rick) Ebbert of Mt. Olivet; one sister: Geraldine Roth of Moundsville; seven grandchildren: Allison (Patrick) McGue, Ashley Johnson, Corey (Stephanie) Ebbert, Chelsea Ebbert & fiance Gregory Suero, Cullen Ebbert & fiance Kassie Froanapfel, Cody & Carlee Gillespie; four great-grandchildren: Patrick McGue III, Kai Johnson, Jase Johnson, & Hadley Ebbert; and several nieces & nephews.
Family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4pm & 6-8pm at Grisell Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1 Ridgecrest Road, Bethlehem/Wheeling. Funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11am at St. John's Catholic Church, 622 Main Street, Benwood, WV with Father Doney as celebrant & Reverend Patrick McGue as co-celebrant.
Moundsville Honor Guard will conduct military services after the funeral mass.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
