James Francis Baller Sr., known fondly as Jim, peacefully passed away on March 3, 2024, at WVU Medicine- Wheeling Hospital surrounded by his adoring family. Born on June 10, 1951, in Wheeling, WV, Jim lived a remarkable life in 72 years.
Jim had a couple careers throughout his life spending the last several years serving as the dedicated Director of Facilities at West Virginia Northern Community College. Beyond his professional commitments, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, the beach and cherishing moments spent with his children and grandchildren.
A man of faith, Jim was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Elm Grove Eagles. He held esteemed positions within various organizations, including being a Lifetime Member of the Wildlife League of Ohio County, President of the Baker Sod Hunt Club, and Vice President of the Altar Society of Seven Dolors. Jim also proudly served his country in the US Navy and was honored with 2 Bronze Stars for his service, sacrifice and dedication.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Joseph and Mary Joan (O'Neill) Baller, mother and father- in-law, Charles and Eileen Riggle, and sister-in-law, Barbara Baller. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Connie (Riggle) Baller, his siblings, Carl Baller, Jr., Peggy (Chuck) Baller-Everly, Mary Ellen (Chuck) Bliss, Geralyn (John) Hemmann, David (Kim) Baller, and Patrick (Pam) Baller, brother and sister-in-laws, Lennie Riggle and Becky Riggle, his children, Aimee (Tim) Jones, Mary (Demetrius King) Cox, Jimmy (Shannon) Baller, Jr., and Emily Baller, his grandchildren, Dhira, Ryley (Abbey), Keondre, Gabe, Ryen, Ryder, KeAsia, Laiken, Evan, MaKenna, Jaylynn and Taetym as well as 1 great granddaughter, Jovie. Pappy Jim was very proud of all of his children and grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, Jim leaves behind a host of special nieces, neph- ews, cousins and friends.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00 am, with Father Jeeson as Celebrant, followed by interment at Mount View Cemetery in Dallas, WV.
