James Luther Spencer, age 78, passed away peacefully Friday February 23, 2024, at his Myrtle Beach, SC home with his loving wife Judith by his side.
Formerly of Wheeling, WV, Mr. Spencer was the son of the late James and Alma Spencer.
Mr. Spencer taught band in Webster County, WV from 1968 to 1974, in Tyler County from 1979 to 1981 and Ohio County from 1981 to 2000. He enjoyed playing the French Horn, playing golf and fishing. He traveled to all 50 states, 45 countries and 7 continents. Mr. Spencer was a member of the West Virginia Education Association, West Virginia Music Education Association, West Virginia Band Masters Association, National Band Association, Phi Beta Mu, Phi Mu Alpha and the National Education Association.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Judith Spencer, Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter, Mary Gee, Tazewell, VA; granddaughter, Spencer Gee, Coudersport, PA; grandson, Travis Gee, Tazewell, VA; daughter, Terri Ast and son in law, Kai Ast, Morgantown, WV; granddaughter, Haley Ast, Morgantown, WV; grandson, Jake Ast, Morgantown, WV; brothers, William Spencer, Mena, AR; William Spencer and sister in law, Yvonne Spencer, Mena, AR.
