John "Jay" Bentz passed away peacefully at his home in Palm Harbor, FL, on January 18, 2024. He was 76.
Jay was born on June 20, 1947 in Wheeling, WV, the eldest of three children to John (aka "Jack") and Evelyn (Mueller) Bentz. He graduated from Wheeling Catholic HS in 1965 and West Virginia University in 1969. Most of his professional life was spent as a flood insurance adjuster. He retired in 2019.
He enjoyed music, football, travel, gardening, and reading.
Jay is survived by his daughter, Holly (Jim) Cox, and grandchildren, James and Ellie of Pittsburgh, PA. He is also survived by his sister, Vicki Bentz, brother Donald Bentz, nephew Chad (Amber) Bentz and their children Isaac and Rosalee, all of Wheeling, WV. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Evelyn Bentz, of Wheeling WV. He is also survived by many friends and relatives.
A memorial service for Jay will be held this Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11:00am, at St. Vincent de Paul in Wheeling.
