Rita (Niehaus) Bowers, born August 18, 1947 passed away peacefully at home on March 18, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband Curtis "Al" Bowers, her parents Vincent and Alberta (Coutz) Niehaus, her sister Mary Bowers, and her brother Daniel Niehaus.
She is survived by her children Erin, Lisa, and Jeff (Pam) Bowers, a sister Donna (Pat) Milliken and five grandchildren Justin, Jenna, Kiersten, Kolten, and Kyla, nieces and nephews Larry, Shelly, Steve, Clay, Eric, and Becky as well as several great nieces and great nephews and many great friends from cards, church, Silver Sneakers, the Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center, and Wheeling Team Red White and Blue.
Rita graduated from Central Catholic HIgh School and worked at the Hub. Then, she worked as a switchboard operator for C & P, Bell Atlantic, and Verizon. She retired from Verizon.
She enjoyed family get-togethers, music, travel, church, going to her Silver Sneakers class at the YMCA, cheering on Team Red White and Blue, and volunteering at the Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center. She was an inspiration to all.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21st, from 4:00pm until vigil and rosary at 7:00pm at the Benwood- McMechen Altmeyer Funeral Homes.
Friday, March 22nd, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Peace starting at 10:00am. Father Joseph Augustine will be officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Altmeyer Funeral Homes and online sympathies and condolences may be made out at www.altmeyerfuneralhomes.com
