BETTY WELCH

Betty Rosalea (Riggle) Welch, 93, of Dallas, WV passed away peacefully on April 7, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 7, 1931, to the late Thomas and Almeda (Caldwell) Riggle.

She worked at Stone and Thomas in Wheeling, WV for 35 years. Every summer, she planted two vegetable gardens and loved canning hundreds of quart jars for her cellar. She was famous for her spaghetti sauce, raspberry jelly, and pickled beets. It was her great joy to see family around the dinner table enjoying a homemade meal from her kitchen. In the winter, she made beautiful quilts. Every Christmas, the coveted prize was a "Betty Quilt" during the white elephant gift exchange.

She loved her back porch as it was always full of family and friends, laughing and exchanging stories. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be missed dearly.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Welch Sr., her beloved son, James T. Welch Jr., three brothers, Thomas Riggle, Charles (Eileen) Riggle, and Frank (Faye) Riggle, sister, Shirley Hatfield, in-laws Margie (Bud) Gray, and Regina (Ambrose) Stein.

She is survived by three daughters, Debbie (Glenn) Dunn, Darla (Pete) Herrick, Donna (Tom) McLaughlin, grand- children, Nathan (Courtney) Welch, Bethanie Herrick, Julie (Alex) Dunn, Ashley (Andrew) Guenard, and Shannon (Derek) Artimez, great grandchildren Connor and Owen Guenard, Maddie and Rylan Welch, sister, Bonnie (Gerald) Berghoff, sister-in-law Mary Kay Riggle, "special" niece and nephews Debbie (Michael) Bellisario, Doug (Kelly) Berghoff and Brad (Becky) Berghoff and many other wonderful family members.

The Welch family would like to extend a warm thank you to Sadonna and Jim Barton for always being a "phone call away". Thank you for always lending a helping hand; Mom loved and appreciated you.

Betty was an active member of Dallas United Methodist Church and loved her church family. The family sends their sincere gratitude to everyone who visited, sent cards, and prayed.

Family and friends will be received at Kepner's Funeral Home in Elm Grove, WV on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will occur at Kepner's on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.; Interment to follow at Mt. View Cemetery, Dallas, WV.
