James Allen Jewett, 82, of Wheeling, WV, passed away March 29, 2024 at Wheeling Hospital surrounded by family.
He was born January 31, 1942, son of the late Clarence and Josephine Smith Jewett.
Jim was a graduate of McKinley Vocational High School and served 4 years with the United States Navy aboard the USS Springfield. He was employed with Valley Camp Coal for 18 years, then worked for Ohio County Schools for 20 years. Following retirement, Jim worked 20 years tending bar at Wakims in Elm Grove.
Jimmy, as known by his friends, was an avid Jamboree In The Hills fan, having missed only one year. He also enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, sipping a cold one with friends and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sandra Paoletti and Barbara Haller.
Jim is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patty Wade Jewett; a brother, Clarence "Bud" Jewett of Valley Grove; his children, Jamie Jewett Temple, Julie (Ed) Gornik, Jodie (Matt) Bell, all of Florida, Brian (Jenn) Barnes of Baltimore, MD and Eric (April) Barnes and Adam Barnes, both of Wheeling; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends and family will be received Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 2-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling (304-242-2311), where services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Deb Dague officiating.
