On August 7, 2023, Maureen B. Schmitt O'Brien passed peacefully in her sleep after a long and hard-fought battle against cancer.
Among her many talents, Maureen was dedicated, creative, loyal, brilliant, and kind. She was an incredible mother, an amazing Nana, and a cherished and beloved friend.
She nurtured familial relationships and friendships for decades, holding all those hearts close to her own. Maureen maintained a deep and powerful commitment to her faith in God, which called her to love others and live a life of service.
Maureen is survived by her daughter Leah (Drew); the littlest love of her life, Felix; her siblings Therese, Frank, Steve (Tina), and John (Roseann); and, other family members Phi (yoshi), John (Crystal), Haley (Justin), Ullainee, Barbara, Ray (Sarah), Lynne, her PITA Sisters, and so many others.
She was preceded in death her parents Kathleen and Walter, her stepmother Jeanne, grandfather John, and her beloved grandmother, Mary. We hope they are having ice cream together now.
A small celebration of life was held in Atlanta last year. Another event is planned for Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Oglebay's Driehorst Shelter from 2-7 pm. RSVPs requested and more information available by emailing Maureen's daughter Leah at MoLovein Wheeling@gmail. com.
