Richard Lee Sperling, age 82 of Glen Dale, WV passed away peacefully, early Monday morning, April 22, 2024 at home.
He was born on May 22, 1941 to the late M. William and Ruth Zumbrunnen Sperling.
He was a 1959 graduate of Moundsville High School; and retired from Mobay/ Bayer after 40 years.
He was a member of the First Church of God in McMechen.
Richard married the love of his life Sandy Martin on July 30, 1960.
He was an avid car enthusiast, who loved working on cars, especially his 1963 split window corvette; and loved boating on the Ohio River.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; a friend to many; a master builder, and he loved spending time with his family and watching his grand- children enjoy his swimming pool.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Sperling; nephew, Dale Sperling; his mother- in-law, Virginia Martin; father-in-law, John Martin; and brothers- in-law, Jimmy and John Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandy; his children, Cindy (Phil) McCabe of Glen Dale, Sheri Harvey of Sherrard, and Rick (Shawn) Sperling of Glen Dale; grandchildren, Phillip (Kala M.) McCabe, Kristen (John Michael) Cassidy, Zane (Sara) Harvey, Ricky Sperling, Chase Harvey and Cody Sperling; four great- grandchildren, Cole, Jane, Everley and Wren; sisters-in- law, Bonnie (Anthony) Cuchta, Beckie Martin and Sandy Martin- Adams; and brother- in-law, Mark (Shelly) Martin, along with several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Friday from 2-7pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10am with Pastor Mitch Johnston officiating.
Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
