Eleanor Louise "Ellie" Klug, 79, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Wheeling Hospital.
She was born December 21, 1944 in Canaan, CT, a daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (McGee) Bates. Ellie was a beautician, she worked at the Wheeling Civic Garden Center, but above everything, she loved being a devoted mother and wife. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Ellie lived into her calling of helping her neighbors through volunteerism with Mt. St. Joseph, where she served as an Auxiliary member, Family Services, Florence Crittenton Home, the Altheinhem Resource Center and with the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Ellie was a former Girl Scout Leader, and enjoyed crafting in her free time.
In 2015, Ellie was honored with the "Sylvia Watkins" award. This award truly highlighted Ellie's dedication in the fight against Alzheimer's disease.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Terrance "Terry" Klug (2015) and her three siblings, Robert, Leonard, Wheaton and Winfred.
Ellie is survived by her four children MaryCharlotte Klug of Wheeling, Dr. Rebecca Klug of Wheeling, Kimberly (James) Klug-Miller of Essex, United Kingdom and Joseph (Richelle) Klug of Sewickley, PA; three grandchildren, Peter, Eloise and Avelyn and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, Elm Grove Chapel, with a vigil service at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, May 29 at 12:30 pm at St. Michael Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Altenhiem Resource Center in C/O www.tmcfunding.com.
