Karen Louise Mitchell, 69, of Washington, WV, passed away June 5, 2024, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
She was born on March 13, 1955, in Glen Dale, WV, a daughter of the late Bernard Frederick Doyle, Sr. and Sally Louise McGlumphy Doyle.
Karen retired as a teacher with the Wood County Board of Education having taught at various schools, including Blennerhassett Elementary and Middle Schools, Lincoln Elementary School, Franklin Elementary School, Waverly Elementary School, and Emerson Elementary School. She was a member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church (where she participated in the choir, handbells, Eureeka small group, Hope Circle, and the backpack ministry), St. Marys Community Band and enjoyed playing with the Marietta College Band.
She is survived by three brothers, Bernard F. "Bernie" (Brenda) Doyle, Jr. of Moundsville, WV, Charles W. "Chuck" (Jennifer) Doyle of Vienna, WV, Timothy A. "Tim" (Jarussri) Doyle of Norfolk, VA; two nieces, Stacey Doyle (Ian) Ference of New York, NY, Miranda N. Doyle of Vancouver, WA; one nephew, Nathan D. Doyle of Athens, GA; and her beloved dog "Daisy."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Randy Mitchell.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stout Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cynthia Eakle officiating. Burial will follow at Swank Cemetery in Speed, WV. Visitation will be held Tuesday 5-7 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home of Parkersburg on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to express a special thank you to all those who provide care and compassion for Karen over these past years.
