LEWIS NEWMAN IV

Lewis Steenrod Newman IV, born on February 28, 1938, in Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away on June 17, 2024, at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, at the age of 86.

Lew was a man of integrity who proudly served his country in the US Marines Corp. He was a retired machinist with Nemeth Machine, where he dedicated many years of his professional life until his retirement in 2000. His work ethic and dedication were evident throughout his career, leaving a lasting impact on all who worked with him.

Beyond his professional achievements, Lew was deeply involved in his community and held a passion for coaching baseball. He found great joy in coaching the Elm Grove Giants and the Dimmeydale Rockets, imparting not only his knowledge of the sport but also his values of teamwork and perseverance to countless young athletes.

A devout member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Lew served faithfully as an usher. His commitment to service extended beyond the church as he took on leadership roles within various organizations. He was a past Exalted Ruler for the Elks, past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Cave Club. Additionally, he served on the Board of Directors of the Italian-American Club, contributing significantly to the community he loved.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis S. Newman III, and Betty (Hores) Newman.

Lew was blessed with a loving family and shared 66 years of marriage with his beloved spouse, Mary Ann (Frohnapfel) Newman.

Lewis is survived by his children, Lewis (Cheryl) Newman V, Genia (Tim) Hammers, and David (Sandy) Newman. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Lewis (Nicole) Newman VI Jennifer (Jacob) Gibson, Travis Hammers, and Justin Hammers, and his great-grandson, Randy Gibson.

Lewis Steenrod Newman IV will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his career, and his community. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
