RONALD FLEMING
Ronald Dean “Ron” Fleming, 78, of Wheeling, West Virginia, passed peacefully into God’s arms on Sunday, June 16, 2024.Ron was born January 6, 1946, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to Dean and Thelma (Yeater) Fleming.
Ron retired from Weirton Steel after 41 years in several positions, his last one being a diesel locomotive mechanic. He also served in the Army from 1967-1969 as a specialist and received an honorable discharge.
For many years he had been a member of First Baptist Church of Weirton, where he served in many roles, including as a deacon, leading Bible studies, teaching Sunday school, and even preaching periodically. In the greater community, he co-led a local evangelistic outreach called the Light Company, which showed Christian movies at a variety of venues and presented the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Many people came to know the Lord through this outreach. When he moved to Wheeling, he joined First Baptist Church Wheeling and served for a period of time as a trustee.
Those who knew Ron will remember his enjoyment of classic cars, his devotion to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and his love of cruising in his 1977 Trans Am. He enjoyed going to car shows and especially appreciated it when his sons joined him.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kinsey Fleming, and two siblings, Sharon Swiger and Raymond Fleming.
Ron is survived by his wife, Karen; brother, Alan Fleming (Cyndi); children, Ronald Wayne Fleming, William Fleming (Renae), Erin Fleming (Paula), Brent Fleming (Ginger), and Tiffany James; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 21 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM and again on Saturday, June 22 at 9 AM till time of Funeral Service at 10 a.m. at Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, with Pastor Frank Haas officiating.
Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery Haven of Rest, Colliers, WV with Military Honors.
