CHARLENE HANNA
Charlene Hughes Hanna died April 23, 2024 at Wheeling University Hospital. She was born in Beckley WV on October 7, 1944 to Gladys Hughes Crawford and Charles Hughes.
She was a member of the US Coast Guard, graduated from West Virginia University with a Masters in Music and remained an avid fan. She taught music in the Marion County School District and then the Hancock County School District until retirement. She was an accomplished equestrian where she enjoyed multiple disciplines, showed at the American Quarter Horse Congress, AQHA World and Select World Shows, she was AQHA West Virginia Rookie of the Year. She enjoyed traveling, being an adventurous cook, doing crafts and reading animal magazines; she never met an animal that she did not like or try to care for. She was funny, caring, thoughtful, and kind. As her last act of generosity, her body was donated to science.
On August 13, 1968 she married the love of her life Stephen Lyons Hanna who survives along with cousins Nikki Howard from Waynesburg, PA and Cleve Campbell from Cinncinnati OH.
Preceded in death are her mother, father who died before she was born during WW11, and her step father Charles Crawford.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
