Zorian-Barr, Helen Marie 92, of Wheeling, WV, died July 19, 2024 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling, WV.
Born in Schenectady, New York on December 10, 1931, Helen was the daughter of the late John K. & Dorothy (Talbot) Zorian.
Zorian-Barr studied painting and design at Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, art and psychology at West Liberty State College and fashion illustration at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, a life member of Kappa PI, National Art Honorary.
Formerly employed many years as head fashion artist with Stone & Thomas Department Store, Zorian-Barr later became head fashion artist of the former L.S. Good's Department Store. Zorian-Barr operated the Helen Zorian-Barr Art Studios in Moundsville and Wheeling and has exhibited extensively throughout the area in numerous art shows. She has won many top awards and is best known for her colorful & creative paintings of famous jazz musicians, which may be found in many private and business collections both here and nationally. She taught adult classes in oil painting and acrylics in Moundsville and for Oglebay Institute and has presented gallery portrait demonstrations sponsored by OI. Rated among the Ohio Valley's outstanding painters, Helen Zorian- Barr was the first Wheeling woman artist to be honored with a one-man show by Oglebay Institute. During her painting career over the years, she had 9 one-man shows of her paintings in the Tri-State Area.
Surviving is her son, David Thomas (Michelle) Barr of Wheeling WV; her daughter Lynne Barr Jeffries of Pittsburgh, PA; a nephew, David A. (Michelle) Frum; niece, Rebecca A. Frum; brother-in-law, David L. Frum and great nephew Erick Frum.
Family and friends will gather to say goodbye Monday, July 29, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home at 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV. Helen will be honored with a graveside service following the visitation at Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to Webark Estates, No-kill animal shelter Moundsville; Ohio County Library; Martins Ferry Library; or Catholic Charities for the homeless by visiting www.TMC Funding.com.
