James "Jimmy" Dante Spurlin, age 43, died at his home on July 5, 2024.
He was born October 23, 1980 in Wheeling, the son of Jacqueline M. Spurlin Zavolta and James Johnson.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his loving mother: Jackie Zavolta, who left us on August 20, 2011.
In addition to his father he is survived by his step-father: Ron Zavolta; one brother: Michael Zavolta; one sister: Joni Zavolta; five beautiful children: Austi and Aubri Long, Anthony Spurlin, Cooper Groome and Carter Cooke; aunts and uncles: Joan (Eric) Seeger, Virginia Sue (Greg) Sandreth, Jody Spurlin, Phillip (Philo) Spurlin, Louise Johnson and many, many other brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and relatives.
Jimmy had a wonderful sense of humor, a beautiful engaging smile. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and relatives. Additionally, Jimmy had a love and passion for all sports, especially baseball. He excelled in all sports and was a great athlete.
Jimmy unfortunately, as an adult, had a life long struggle with an opioid related addiction. His untimely passing serves as yet another poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle faced by those battling (24/7 - 365) opioid addiction. His life and loss highlight their critical need for continued love, support, understanding and prayer for not only addicts, but also their friends, families and loved ones.
We hope that his story will somehow help inspire others to seek the help and assistance necessary to combat this relentless disease. Drug Addiction Hotline (833) 674-2397.

Family and close friends are hosting a celebration of Jimmy's life, on Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 11:00am to 3:00pm at the Yorkville Park Shelter 4. We'd be honored to have you join us for this special event.
