John Thomas Erazmus Jr., 71, of Moundsville, WV, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024. Born on June 20, 1953, in Glen Dale, WV, John dedicated his life to hard work, family, and community.
John most recently served as a Chemical Operator at Bayer Chemical Plant until his health began to fail. His industrious spirit was also evident during his years spent as a coal miner and painter. No matter the job, John always displayed an unwavering commitment and tireless work ethic.
An outdoorsman at heart, John found immense joy in hunting and fishing, with a particular passion for trout fishing. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirates baseball fan, celebrating the highs and enduring the lows with steadfast loyalty. John was a proud member of the Marshall County Hunting and Fishing Club and a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church in Moundsville.
John's life was marked by his generous spirit; he often donated his time and talents painting churches across the Ohio Valley. His contributions reflected his deep sense of community and service to others.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Erazmus Sr. and Lua (Wayt) Erazmus, his sister Mary Lou Zimbeco, and his brother Larry Erazmus.
John leaves behind his loving wife of over 50 years, Jean R. (Cunningham) Eraz- mus, and his son, John Erazmus III (Suzanne Kubancik). He will also be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Friday, July 19, from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm, and again on Saturday, July 20, from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 am, officiated by Pastor Mike Eskridge. Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling.
