CHARLES SOVINSKY Sr.

Charles Victor Sovinsky, Sr., 94, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024 in his home.

He was born November 24, 1929, in Wheeling, WV, son of the late Frank J. Sovinsky and Elizabeth Scott Irwin.

Charles was a retired truck driver for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation, Martins Ferry, OH. He was a Korean War veteran for the U.S. Marine Corp, where he was a sharpshooter and Staff Sergeant.

He was an avid marathon runner and triathlete who also had a knack for running heavy equipment and passion for restoring and showing his 1924 Dodge Touring car. He was a black belt in several disciplines of martial arts and was an instructor in the Young Marines.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alyce LaVerne Carlysle Sovinsky; sister, Mary Riggs; brother, Frank Sovinsky; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Charles is survived by 2 sons, Chuck (Becky) Sovinsky, Michael (Susan) Sovinsky; 2 daughters, June Chiplinski, Cindy Sovinsky; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and again on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Kepner Funeral Homes, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV (304-242-2311) where services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 11 AM with Reverend Margie Carr officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery where the Moundsville Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services.
