SHIRLEY MILTON

Shirley Trosch Milton, 92, of Wheeling, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.

She was born on December 21, 1931, in Wheeling, daughter of the late Edith Vinall and Carl Trosch.

Shirley graduated from Triadelphia High School in 1949, and West Virginia University in 1953 with a BA in Education and Home Economics, retiring from Bellaire High School and her love of teaching in 1992.

Through her life, she remained active in the Episcopal church, serving at St. John’s Episcopal Church, and during her later years at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in multiple roles including Vestry member and Christian education. She was proud of her contributions on statewide involvement with The Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia.

She was active in the community serving as President of the Junior League of Wheeling from 1966-1968; other contributions included The Kings Daughters, the Sandscrest Board, Elmhurst, Oglebay Institute and the Mansion Museum.

For 60 years, she was married to Charles Clark Milton, who died in 2013. Surviving includes two sons, Dr. C Clark Milton and his wife, Elaine of Wheeling, and Jonathan Milton and his wife, Kim of Cranberry Township, PA; a daughter, Elly Bradford and her husband, Patrick of Powell, OH; seven grandchildren, Valerie Milton Lynch and husband, Andrew, Colin Milton and wife, Sage, Elizabeth and Julie Milton, Isabella, Victoria, and Alexandria Bradford; two great grandchildren, Nora and Dash Lynch; two siblings: “The Twins” – Carl Trosch and his wife, Bryce from Pittsburgh, PA and Lois Trosch and the late Minett from Charlotte, NC and sister the late Carole Rivlin and her deceased husband, Ron Rivlin; and several nieces, nephews, and caring friends.

The family commends and thanks the staff of Elmhurst for their professionalism, caring and love to Shirley during her marvelous life there.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, October 25, 2024, for memorial visitation from 4-8 pm at Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11 am at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 1410 Chapline Street, Wheeling WV 26003, with Rev. Josh Saxes officiating.
