JOHN “JACK” LEE
John Charles “Jack” Lee, 79, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Monday, November 4, 2024 at Wheeling Hospital – WVU.
He was born April 11, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late Edward Porter and Mary E. (Maher) Lee. Jack was a graduate of Marist College, earned a Master’s degree in Communications Arts from the University of Notre Dame, as well as earned a Master’s degree in Education Leadership from WVU. He worked as an educator throughout the Ohio Valley in places that included the WV Penitentiary, Youth Services Systems and Marshall County Schools before retiring from there as a principal. Jack loved music. There was always music in his home, and he was an avid musician, specializing in guitar. Jack was known as a singer, and for his band “Jack Lee and Friends.” He was also passionate about photography and videography.
Jack loved baseball, playing little league in childhood and recreationally as an adult. He began a love affair with ice skating and hockey playing pickup games as a teen. He followed the Pirates and the Penguins in addition to being a season ticket holder for the Pirates, the Washington Wild Things, and held season tickets for the Nailers since their first season in Wheeling.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Lee and Richard Lee, and one nephew, Robert “Red” Lee, as well as his sister-in-law Deni Lee.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Theodora St. Lawrence, his step-son Robert (Carrie Graf) St. Lawrence and their daughter, Alma Graf St. Lawrence, two siblings, Elizabeth “Betsy” Lee and James “Jim” Lee, his sister-in-law, Barbara Lee, several nieces and nephews, his closest friend, Bill Cornforth, and his four beloved furry companions.
Jack fought the damages done to his body by cancer for 15 years. However, he never let the disease take his determination, positivity, kindness, or ability to love.
