RONALD ROSKOVICH

Ronald Frank Roskovich, affectionately known as “Rosko,” passed away on November 18th at the age of 81 after a brief illness.

Born on June 9, 1943, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, Ron was a proud graduate of Bridgeport High School, where he excelled in baseball, football, and basketball, graduating in 1961.

His journey took him to Ohio University, where he played baseball, but his studies were interrupted by a draft into the U.S. Army. There he served as a medic and played on a traveling baseball team to entertain the troops.

After his service, he returned to college, and though his many years there didn’t earn him a medical degree, they did lead him to a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and, more importantly, to the love of his life, Janet Loughley. They married in 1972 at St. Anthony’s Church in Bridgeport and started a family.

Ron embarked on a career in the industrial packaging industry, most notably with Pro-Pak Containers. While most salespeople sell boxes with items inside, Ron joked that selling empty boxes was a much tougher proposition. He became an excellent provider for his family, never fully retiring from calling customers for just one more order.

Ron’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and pappy, always worrying about them but willing to do anything for them. His gruff exterior hid a heart full of love and care for his family and friends, who cherished his hilarious tales of brawls and mishaps from his misspent youth.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Janet, his children Holly (Randy) Collins, Kelly Roskovich (Matt Long), and Scott Roskovich, and his granddaughters Kendall Kropp and Lauren Klempa. He also leaves behind his siblings Ross Roskovich (Mella) and Judy Beckett (Greg Lauri), along with numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, and fans as well as his beloved dog, Maggie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Rusciolelli and Frank Roskovich.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, November 24, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm and from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a 5:30 pm Vigil Service, and on Monday, November 25, from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the Altmeyer Funeral Homes Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 25, at 11:00 am at St. Michael Catholic Church, where Ron had served as an usher. Procession to Mt. Calvary Cemetery for Ron’s committal and interment with Military Honors and a luncheon at the Angelus Center at St. Michael will directly follow.

Rosko’s legacy of love, laughter, and colorful storytelling will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. Gifts of flowers are welcome.
