SUSAN HOGAN

Susan Cox Hogan, 74, died peacefully at home in Wheeling on Saturday, November 23rd, surrounded by family, friends, and her beloved animals.

Susan lived as full a life as anyone we’ve known. She was a champion of kids, those in need, artists, musicians, women, and mostly the city of Wheeling and those who live here.

Her first marriage to David Nelson was blessed with their son Michael, who was raised and currently resides in California.

Being a force of love, Susan was a combustion of creativity and a forever volunteer. Her endeavors were many and varied — beginning with her first professional gig with the Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society, a jazz club in Half Moon Bay, California. Soon afterwards, she moved back to Wheeling, where her parents, Mike and Bea Cox, resided. She married Bill Hogan of Wheeling before they volunteered in the Peace Corps in Benin, Africa. Upon their return, she resumed her tireless work for the YWCA, the Wheeling Symphony, Grow Ohio Valley, Rotary International, and Youth Services System, all the while serving on many boards contributing to the well-being of Wheeling.

Susan’s immediate family includes her sister, Sally Cox Fields and husband Bob; her son, Michael Nelson, daughter-in-law Melissa, and grandchildren, Raina and Koa; her husband Bill (deceased) and his children: Peggy (deceased), Neil, Tina, Brady, Liza (deceased), and Andy, wife April, and their son Tom; as well as her nephews, Robert and Brian Fields.

May her bright, loving light continue to inspire harmony and beauty in all of our lives.
