WILLIAM “BILL” BAILEY
William E. (Bill) Bailey of Englewood, Florida, previously of Glen Dale, West Virginia, died peacefully Monday, November 4, 2024, at Heritage Oaks of Englewood, Florida where he was a resident for the last several years. He was born October 17, 1933, to Rose Cecelia O’Connell Bailey and Clarence William Bailey of Wheeling.
Bill was proceeded in death by his wife, Phyllis DiStefano Bailey and infant son, Francis Timothy.
Survivors include two children, Karen Pouzol and her husband, Philip of Blue Hill, Maine and Michael Bailey and his wife Jean of Wheeling, West Virginia; two granddaughters, Stephanie and her husband Michael Cabral of Orrington, Maine and Jessica and her husband Tyler King of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; three great- grandchildren, Corinne, Simon and Bodie.
Bill was a 1951 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Wheeling, WV, and married Phyllis on October 17, 1953. He served in the United States Air Force before beginning a long career at Kammer Power Plant in Moundsville, WV. He was an instrument repairman and served as union Treasurer for many years. He enjoyed helping with Bishop Donahue High School athletics. He was a parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church in Glen Dale, WV, and St. Raphael in Englewood, Florida. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks and Moose. Bill was one of a kind. His warm smile and his sweet nature made him the most inviting and likable friend and father. He was a good listener, humble and loyal, a devout Catholic and a devoted husband. He was a WVU and Pittsburgh sports enthusiast, golfer and dog lover. He was Pappap.
Visitation will be held 4-8pm, Thursday, November 14 th at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes and Kirby-Vance Chapel, 188 Grant Avenue, Moundsville. Mass will be celebrated at 10am Friday, November 15th at St. Jude Church in Glen Dale, WV.
