Alvah "Russ" Russell Schwertfeger, 96, of Bethany, WV passed away December 18, 2024, at Liza's Place, Wheeling, WV.
Russ was born June 13, 1928, in Wellsburg, WV to the late Charles and Katherine Garrison Schwertfeger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Charles Schwertfeger, and sister Cleo Wilson.
Russ retired from Brooke County Schools where he worked for over 30 years. Russ attended the West Liberty Christian Church and Served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his loving wife Lois Jean Gordon Schwertfeger, three sons Rusty and Kim Schwertfeger of Bethany, WV, Mark and Marcia Schwertfeger of Wellsburg, WV and Jay and Mary Schwertfeger of Bethany, WV, two daughters Kris Liptak and James of Jefferson, GA, and Dawn Swiger and Mark of Wheeling, WV, one brother Noel Schwertfeger of West Liberty, WV, one sister Olive Turner of West Liberty, WV, thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren with three on the way.
Visitation will be held Saturday December 21, 2024, from 6-8pm at Reasner Funeral Home 1515 Charles Street, Wellsburg, WV. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 11am at the funeral home with Bonnie Gilbert officiating, graveside services will follow at Bethany Cemetery, Bethany, WV with Full Military Honors by the US Army Reserves and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
